Christmas and 16 Inches of SNOW in Albuquerque!

These pictures show lOTS OF SNOW in Albuquerque, even on cactus! It was the worst snow in Albuquerque history-from 16-36 inches in some places. They were out of snowshovels so Ron made the wooden one to shovel us out. All the highways are closed so we can't escape even if we wanted to! But, there's something beautiful about this winter storm when you know you'll be back in AZ soon!
It's been a great holiday with Jamie and Eric. Jamie is teaching me how to cook. Maybe now we won't throw so much food away. If she can do this, she's a miracle worker!

Travels on the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats

The mountains were beautiful on this sunny day. We started our journey today at Cave Creek and Carefree, northeast of Phoenix. The towns were interesting western towns.

But, then Wow! We then traveled southeast of Phoenix to the Apache Trail. It took us down a long narrow winding mountainous road with many cacti in the surrounding cliffs. We had lunch at Tortilla Flats, population 6. Check out their website: http://www.tortillaflataz.com

Then we ended our journey at an old mining area and headed home, Leona and Chuck both snoring away!

Verde Canyon Train Trip

We went for a four hour train ride in Verde Canyon. It was a ride through a beautiful mountain region with high canyons and a river. We were mostly in the open air car and often we had red cliffs on all sides of us.

The pictures will tell it all. What a great time!

Up in the Mountains by way of Prescott, Sedona and Montezuma

This was another great day for the adventurous foursome. We found that same hitchhiker and Chuck insisted on feeding him. Leona babied him!
We went through the mountains at Prescott where Leona said she didn't like mountains any more. They were a little scary on her side of the car!

Then we climbed the rocks. Boy! Can that Chuck climb! Take a look at him up there!
See that red shirt in the next picture? That's the climbing monkey!

Then we went to the red rocks of Sedona.
What beautiful mountains!

We finished the day at Montezuma's Castle-
Native American ruins.
Here's Chuck in the wonderful sunshine!

Here's Leona and Chuck at the beautiful neighborhood pool. They love it here!
Today we had to take a break from travel so we enjoyed the sunny 80 degree weather by going for a walk, swimming and sitting outside all day. We played cards outside on the patio table but Ron and Chuck just can't win gracefully. They danced around the patio table when they beat us at cards again! I think they must cheat! They aren't very good really.

Grand Day! Oh, My!

Brother Chuck and Sister Leona are here for a visit so today we went for a day trip to the grandest of places-the Grand Canyon. It was a great sunny day, we even had a picnic at the park.

Chuck without the railing.

Ron and Carlene, happy as usual.

Leona all bundled up in 55 degrees at this coldest of places.

Tomorrow we go to the pool and then we are off to many other places.
Keep watching for updates of the trips of this wild bunch.
